    Antikythera Mechanism - New dive

A new dive is returning to the wreck where this mysterious device was found (in 1900) to try and find any further parts of it - http://www.newscientist.com/article/...l#.U5GTKaBIL5k

For those not familiar with the mechanism, it's basically a truly astounding 2000yr old analog astronomical computer from Greece - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. This series of videos showing a reconstruction of the machine using the tools available at the time is great. It gives a true insight into just how advanced the knowledge and skills were 2200yrs ago to build this type of machine (computer). And to think all that knowledge was basically lost for over a thousand years!

Also jump to 59m into this video to see an animation of the mechanism - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iv-zWbxm2lY&t=59m10s
