What is your occupation and what's your dream job?

What do you do at work? If you do not want to say your job title or company that is fine.

My job consist of 3 parts. Machinist, Welder, Aircraft Mechanic.

I really don't have a dream job but hopefully I'll be trading my current job very soon for a police badge, squad car, and a gun

    Current profession: Software development.

Ideal profession: None! Man of leisure!
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Currently working in construction and materials hauling. If fuel prices keep rising, I'll be getting out of it soon.

Dream job? Porn star. Seriously though, I don't know. Haven't given it much thought. I would love to be a full time musician, I suppose.

Current Job: Social Worker, doing Intake and Therapy at a Substance Abuse Agency

Dream Job: Opening a housing shelter program for LGBT Youth here on Long Island (A program that I have designed myself)

The REAL reason I answered this questions is that I wanted all to know that it is NEVER too late to achieve your dream. I worked in the Mental Health field for about twenty years without a degree. I had always wanted to be a Social Worker...so....I went back to school to finish my BA at 47...started my Masters in Social Work at 48....got my Social Work License at 49.....and I am turning 50 this September and looking forward to getting my license to have a private therapy practice.

    ITs NEVER too late!!

Current Occupation - Freelance theatre tech, Puppeteer and Artist (with a side gig at a hardware store)

Dream Job - The same, except steadier with good pay. Working on a kid's show, or adult-oriented show seem to be my best bet. If I wound up working for Henson or on Doctor Who, taht would be the pinacle.

Speaking of.....how is that working out for you, Billy? You told us all a while back that you were leaving your day job to focus solely on your puppet and theater work. Has everything been going well with it so far?

Was thinking about doing that myself.

Following in Jethro's footsteps and becoming a brain surgeon/international playboy/double knot knot spy perhaps?
Actually, I'd love to be announcer on the KC Chiefs football radio network and hanging out with DA MAN, Len Dawson. I could live and breathe Chiefs football everyday of my life!!!

Well, leaving the Day Job wasn't so much my choice as the boss decided that the company was going in another direction - straight down the tubes. (They fired most of the folks in that office since, so I feel less picked upon.)

I've been on Unemployment since then. I've filled my days with puppet building, for-hire puppet and showbiz gigs, contact making, etc. I recently picked up a part-time job at a local hardware store (In Wisconsin, UC will pick up any slack, so I wont starve.) Still looking for meaningful full-time work, but that's somewhere between "not quite there yet" and "fecking pipe dream".

Funny side story - My crew and I supplied puppets and shadow puppets for a local production of Seussical. (That's the musical based on the collective works of Dr Seuss.) I wound up being talked into the role of general Genghis Khan Schmitz, the Butter Battle general. There's a solo song and everything. I ain't sang on stage in public in @20 years (Drunken karaoke notwithstanding). I don't sing great, but I can sing in tune in a funny character voice. I also got to wear my ninja suit with full veil, so I was a helluva lot less self-conscious.

I adapted the Sherrif McClelland puppet from our NOTLD show into the General - velcroed a new mustache and eyebrows, and made him a pseudo-military uniform with melting butter pats as epaulets. The Director let me have some fun with my bio, so I had the role played by "Connor McClelland". (It's true, Connor played the General - I just happened to be playing Connor) I got some good reviews:

I laughed and laughed. But my little crew is getting some recognition. That's something.

I leave Utah in the next couple of weeks and will be up in your part of the woods several times in September testing for law enforcement jobs. Hopefully, I make a good impression. Send me a PM if your not busy.
