I've noticed in a few of these there is the use of red tape being placed over the crevices of windows, doors and other "openings"; it's meant to keep out evil spirits. Any clue what the full story of the superstition is? I've tried Google but have come up with nothing. |
Drafts of cold air are associated with hauntings and spirits in quite a number of cultures. Since tape is ofen used around windows and such to prevent drafts, you can make something of a connection. I've not heard of any specifically Japanese superstitions along these lines, however. |
I finially found a link explaining some things dealing with the color red and it's use against evil spirits so, putting those two together makes sense. I was just curious if there was an ancient Japanese superstition anyone knew of. |
