Escape From New York? How is that an apocalyptic film, again? I consider it strange prison film. After all.....NY is a prison in the film...

I was going to suggest this the other day. This thread could turn out to be a goldmine.

    You knows it.

Some rather obvious ones that surprisingly haven't been mentioned yet...

    Planet of the Apes
    12 Monkeys
    The Terminator
    Armagedon
    Deep Impact
    Day of the Dead

Because everyone has almost certainly seen those...
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Maybe, maybe not. But my list is aimed at the slightly less obvious ones, and ones I think are worth watching which people may have ignored... (hopefully)

    Here's some more links

    Great idea, Neil.

    Loved these movies growing up.

    Here's a link to a list site

    http://www.pamedia.com/movies/

    and another.

Some of my own favorites are 'When Worlds Collide/War of The Worlds.'(George Pal double feature)-Soylant Green-Tank Girl(Love Lori Petty and an almost unrecognizable Naomi Watts as her tech geek sidekick )-Day of The Triffids(both big screen and brilliant BBC mini-series )-The Day The Earth Caught Fire- The Crack in The World(in which nuclear testing causes the planet to literally crack in two.)-Radioactive Dreams(A Sam Spade style detective story in a post nuclear future)-Testiment(American style On The Beach tale of a small community waiting for radiation to kill them off )

Ah hah! Both of those sites classify Escape From New York as post-apocalyptic. So I'm not alone on that one. In your face, Bassman!!!

the cable show "jeremiah" springs right to mind.

    "the stand" miniseries.

the movie "lifeforce" has serious apocalyptic overtones to it, what with energy sucking zombies overrunning london.

But how?!?!? It's been awhile since I've seen the flick, but I don't remember there being any mention of the end of the world. Just that there were too many criminals, so they turned New York into a prison.

gentlemen, gentlemen i suggest that we settle this escape from new york spat like rational, sane human beings. you two should fight a duel. weapons are your choice - guns, swords, knives, cat o'nine tails made from fettucini, etc. the survivor is right. simple enough.
