is it just me or are marvel comics getting better lately?

im an avid marvel fan and buy all i can but i havent been able to keep up with all my favrouites cus...well i never have enough money but i found this site: http://groups.msn.com/UltimateSpidermanOnlineComic were you can read em, which considering i buy around 20-25 comics a month i recon its still good karma of sorts, but i recmmoend checking out that current civil war storyline, man thats really picking up lately, kinda curious who the traitor is, but i think there going to change it a little cus theres no way they could let a character as big as iron man go bad for good its probably an imposter knowing them.

and on the marvel comics note i read the spidey arc "the other" yesterday and what the hell happened to the black pirate spiderwoman?, she just dissappeared and that was it, pretty damn dissapointing.
im also waiting for the new planet hulk issues, these are one of the ones im buying cus there so damn good, its wierd not to see him be his usual "hulk smash" self and actually be a real hero for once, but it suits him and its one of the best hulk stories since the appearance of joe fixit for the first time.

...yes im a comic book nerd, but dammit it keeps me entertained

I stopped buying Marvel comics (and most comics in general) ages ago. I seriously want to start up again but I have no idea where to start.

Just got back into buying comics. Found The Ultimates on Amazon whilst looking for the Ultimate Avengers DVD for my lad ( it's well worth a look, BTW) and it's a great series. I'm also enjoying "Civil War", just the core seven part story though, much as I'd like to, buying the whole lot would stretch the budget.
Folks on this site might like Night Of The Living Dead: "The Beginning". Published by Avatar, worth a look.
Also, If you havn't got it, get Marvel Zombies, it's hilarious.

What's up with Avatar? My gripe with them is that I had to wait ages after the promised release date for the above mentioned "NOTLD Beginning" book.

BTW, Hellsing, what else can you recommend? I was looking at manga books
yesterday but haven't got a clue, the only books like this I've read has been some of Junji Ito's "Tomie" stuff and those tasteful and understated "Demon Beast Invasion" books by Toshio Maeda

for Manga I would reccomend Adolf by Osama Tezuka. Its a WW2 story that is very unusual and beatifully done
Lone WOlf and Cub and its excellent Prequel Sword of the executioner is comics at its best. Every story is Gold and the collection spans aover 10 years of work.
Barefoot Gen is great. Its an autobiographical story about a Hiroshima survivor that is way more powerfil than even comic fans imagine a comic to be.

Marvel Zombies was goofy, but I liked it.

Thanks for the info, Coma. Were the Babycart films based on the Lone wolf books or is it the other way around?

Best place to start would be the ultimates vol 1 trade paperback.
Then pick up some of the older ultimate line stuff.

I'm with Capn on this one. I quit reading them a while back for whatever reason. I wouldn't mind picking a few up now, but in my southern corner of the US, I think there's maybe ONE comic book store. And it's definitely not close.

Comics aside.....if there were one near me, I might be able to get my hands on those Dawn/Land/Shaun figures.

avatar just have to have tits and ass in all there comics, i dont even wanna cehck out there stargate ones but i bet theyd have a "bow-chicka-bow-wow" 70's porn style theme to em.

manga wise i can recommend this place:

    http://www.mangavolume.com/

it has hundreds of mangas, i can recommend bleach, hellsing (no duh ) , battle royale and if you want something a bit less adult theres 666 satan (or o-parts hunter as its being released as in the u.s)

You guys should pick up the Invincible tpb's. Invincible is one of my favorite Super Hero comics out there right now, also it was created by Robert Kirkman of The Walking Dead fame.

If you don't read too many of the super hero comics, check out American Virgin, The Exterminators and Y: The Last Man, they are very all good.

The Manga came first. I think it started in the mid 60s. Way ahead of its time. The movies are based on the comics sometimes line for line/shot for shot.
There is also a TV show that is very good.
