This cable series started last night, not quite a sequel to the excellent BBC show, not really a reboot as it hasn't addressed past issues directly - yet.

For those of you who don't have Showtime or can't see it on some other media format, this will be very spoiler heavy so be warned.

Miracle Day begins in Washington DC, with an anonymous net bundle sent to a CIA monitoring station, It concerns a disbanded yet mysterious group called Torchwood. This prompts a massive scramble to discover who and what this organization truly is.
One of the agents, Rex Matheson(Mekhi Phifer) is on the road coordinating everything from his car when he's fatally impaled in a bizarre traffic accident -
At the same time a convicted pedophile, Oswald Danes(Bill Pullman ) is to be executed by lethal injection when his body convulses strangely at the critical moment -

Meanwhile, across the globe in Wales, we are reunited with a familiar face as Gwen Cooper(Eve Myles ) is in serious hiding along with her husband and baby girl, well armed and suspicious of any knock at the door.

All these seemingly disconnected elements begin to come together as all around the world - People Stop Dying. Our skewered spook, Our Death Row Murderer, Gwen's Dad who suffered a lethal heart attack - no one appears to be dying.
Except for Capt Jack Harkness(John Barrowman ), who appeared to suffer the opposite of everyone elses fate.

So far so good, though the abrupt transitions between locations does get confusing at times, the chemistry between the old hands is still there with Gwen in particular getting back into the game with gusto.
The mixup of American and British actors is done well, unlike previous efforts on Dr. Who, so I'm hoping this bodes well for the series.
The only possible deadweight might be Bill Pullman, only because he plays it so laidback in the face of his own miracle as the undead creep Danes. But the rest of it promises to be pretty freaky.
