Anyone playing this? LOL! I've literally just put this on my Steam Wishlist with a view to getting it. I played the original and enjoyed it, so plan on getting no.2.

State of Decay 2 came out about three years ago. The "Juggernaut" edition which includes updates and a polish, and came out last year I believe.

Well, that passed my by. LOL Looking at the reviews, seems to be very mixed. Although, I'm getting a bit of a goo to play the first one again. I remember liking it, despite its very deep flaws.

Day one player here. Single player does get repetitive. It's clearly built around multiplayer which I've never delved into. It's been significantly updated and improved over the years as the studio was bought by Microsoft and they clearly have faith in its IP. No 3 was also announced last year

So I fired the first one up for pig iron last night and jesus that game is as clunky as hell. Plus, I remembered one of my biggest bug bears about it. Everything is over contrasted so badly, that it's almost impossible to see much of anything when you're indoors. Someone made a mod for that though. Played it for a few hours. In any case, I realised that I had bought the Lifeline DLC and never bothered my arse playing it. So I'm on that now. But wow, it runs like shit. The game is so badly optimised, it's not funny. State of Decay 2 is on sale now on Steam at €21. @Kidgloves - I heard that the multiplayer is pants. Basically you're tethered to the host and if you wander off too far you get transported back to them. Frankly that sounds awful. Not that I'm much of a fan of multiplayer anyway.

oddly enough, I drug the xbox360 out the other day and gave this one a whirl. I recall being one of the first to post about this game back when it was just announced, seems like ages ago. preordered the game, had a blast with it...so i was pretty excited to fire it back up and take a trip down memory lane....but like others have mentioned, the game runs like pure shit on flat wheels, particularly on the ol sexbox. couldn't even play it for an hour before i had to sadly put it down. best to leave this one alone and hang on to the good memories.

So I came to the end of Lifeline and "despite" the clunkiness of the game, I had a blast playing it. I really cannot underestimate how "loose" the whole thing is. I will say that I played it with some mods, like slow Romero zombies and far more of them, which gives the game much more of a challenge. I also used a mod that makes zombie attacks instantly fatal. So, if a character gets bit, they're buggered. It really makes you careful about your moves and sometimes, a character's number will just be up, no matter what you do. One guy on a mission to evac a civilian just ran out of ammo, so I tried to make a run for it, but he ran straight into a large mob of zeds that ripped him in two...oops. The military aspect of the game is great though and the small enclave you have to defend gives the player lots of opportunity to blow away zombies. It would be great to see a proper game focused on something like that.

So, it turns out that people who bought the original State of Decay were entitled to a free update of 'State of Decay Year One Survival Edition', that has all the DLC and remastered graphics that GREATLY improve the look and feel of the game. It's much better optimised too, so the whole thing runs much better now without all the jittery goings on the original had. Long story short, check your Steam account for a free State of Decay YOSE update and play that if you want to jump back into the game again.
