The fact Washington is in this instantly interests me!
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. I grew up watching the original. It's a staple of the Western genre, so obviously this version had a lot to live up to. Even with the exceptional casting and competent director, it still feels like there's something missing. Some sort of spark that made the original great but I can't put my finger on it.

However, that's not to say this is a bad film. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing another modern Western, a genre almost forgotten, and this film delivers on the desires of the little boy in all of us to be cowboys. In fact, most of this film is "awwww yeah!" moments just strung together. Six shooter Western porn, if you will.

If you're a fan of the original seven, samurai, or westerns in general, it's definitely worth a viewing. 7/10
