    Whoa! Energy costs!

So my projected annual energy bill is set to go up by 50% this year! And that's before the Putin effect too I suspect...

Another dose of 'fuck you' from the roaring 2020s...

Government talks a lot about gas, but they mention fuck all about the millions of people who heat their homes with burning oil.

Yeh, they tend to be installed in older properties where there's no gas supply.

The idea is there's a large unit, like a radiator on the wall, which has a huge slab of concrete type stuff in it. Yuu have two (analog) controls, one to set how much to heat the slab up over night (on cheaper electricity), and another control to say how quickly to vent that heat out over the next day (literally by opening/closing slats around the slab).

So you have to predict how much to heat up the unit for the next day. And often, come the next evening, with cold weather, the 'slab' is depleted so you've run out of heat to even expell from it.

Ultimately, the unit is very VERY costly and inefficient. eg: My other half's father had four around his one bedroom flat (one of which was fully turned off), and his energy costs were significantly more than our house with four of us in.
