    Lighting???

Does anybody know where to get relatively cheap lighting fixtures that are fast to set-up/break-down? Preferably good for "guerilla" filming.

I found some 500 watt halogen shop lights at the local hardware store. They had handheld single lights and a dual set with two lights on a stand. If you had a van with a small gas generator or access to AC power they would be perfect. You would need to put some gel or a filter on the glass to tone down the harsh white light though.

The single is usually $10, the double was on sale for $17. Orange 50ft extension cords are two or three bucks each.

You also need GEL's to tone the lighting. You need to find a professional camera shop that sells film gels, but you need ones that can handle high heat.

Cool, thanks guys. Hopefully I can find those lights for as cheap as you did, Eyebiter.

Sometimes it can help to throw some sligthly lower wattage bulbs in them as well. Especially (since you mention guerilla style shooting) if you get an AC power inverter that you can hook up to your car battery. Generally a lot cheaper (and quieter, as long as your vehicle isn't a blown muffler rustbucket) than a generator, you can get some pretty beefy ones if you're vehicles alternator pumps enough juice. And it's one less thing to pack up if you boogie quick.
