nanotech used against cancer for the first time...

this is damn interesting. researchers at the london school of pharmacy have successfully used nanoprobes to deliver genes to cancerous cells. once the genes lock onto the cancerous cell they force the production of a protein that basically causes the cancer cell to destroy itself. the huge advantage over treatments now available is that the nanoprobes & the genes they carry only target cancer cells and leave healthy cells in peace. the test was conducted on mice and barring any unforseen consequences, the researchers hope to conduct trials on humans in two years.

    Next stop: zombie apocalypse.

Sorry, I had to get the predictable zombie prediction out of the way before anyone else.

    Awesome news!
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Well, it's kind of cool to see, but excuse me if it gives me the willies.

Yeah. I've read and seen some horrible things about what could happen once the nanotechnology genie gets out of its bottle.
