"Less than $300", according to Nintendo. They're having a press conference on Jan. 19th to announce price, date, launch titles, etc.

Kinda crazy to think that's the same price Wii launched at only a few years ago. very pricey for something you can only play for 180 minutes per charge... Not necessarily true: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=419354 It lasts 3-5 hours with the brightness, wi-fi and 3D cranked all the way up, and up to 8 hours with all that stuff turned off. While it isn't ideal, it's better than the exaggerated numbers being thrown around recently. Still planning on buying one myself, confirmed a black one today with Gamestop. The best news of the conference was how much progress Nintendo has made on the multiplayer/online front. One friend code per console, gamertag-like friends list with 100 spots, and an overall improved focus on online gaming...finally catching up with Sony and Microsoft in that regard.

Surely this has to force the price down on the current gen of consoles too? One of the main reasons I've never bought a PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 is that despite being around for the best part of 5 years now, the price of them hasnt dropped very much at all, most shops still sell them for £230+ unlike previous generations where they usually dropped by a fair bit after the first couple of years! Granted the current gen do a lot more than previous ones, but even so! The 3DS looks interesting though, I've not got a DS myself but have access to one, and they are good & innovative, so looking forward to seeing what this new one can do!

One of the main reasons I've never bought a PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 is that despite being around for the best part of 5 years now, the price of them hasnt dropped very much at all I'm not sure where you're shopping but where I am, the cheapest PS3 console (upon release) was $500 - now you can find them during frequent sales for $200 and they'll include 2 or 3 games. XBOX 360 launched at $400 - now you can buy them for $150-200 (depending on the model) on a regular basis. Those are huge price drops, if you ask me.

I am going to wait, until I find a fulltime job and more titles come out. $250 for the 3DS and $30-$40 per game. Sucks there will only be 2 colors during launch.
