    Ghostbusters firehouse facing forclosure...

    Bummer...

    Source: http://www.limelife.com/blog-entry/Ghostbusters-Firehouse-Facing-Closure/132803.html

    Slimer files for unemployment.

The Ghostbusters are getting an eviction notice. As part of a budget cut-back, New York City is proposing closing 20 firehouses, including the iconic building where the famous ghoul-fighters set up shop.

The firehouse at 14 N. Moore Street in NYC's TriBeCa neighborhood, better known as the location where Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) worked as The Ghostbusters, is being threatened with closure by a city trying to close a major budget gap.

Ladder 8, the name of the fire squad housed in the building, will be one of 20 other first-responder outfits out of a job if Mayor Michael Bloomberg's emergency cuts are approved.

Of course, as the "New York Post" points out, the classic Ivan Reitman film may have predicted this all along -- the Ghostbusters were only able to rent out the building after New York City closed it.

In that case, the Big Apple may be in for a ghostly summer. Let's just hope they still remember who to call.

As for the film series, a second sequel has reportedly been in the works for years, with almost all of the cast on board. Except Bill Murray, of course. The actor says the only way he would do 'Ghostbusters 3' is if his character is killed off in the first scene.

"I think this building should be condemned. There's serious metal fatigue in all the load-bearing members, the wiring is substandard, it's completely inadequate for our power needs, and the neighborhood is like a demilitarized zone."

Of course it's not final, so the department could stay open. I've read that even if it is shut down as an operational firehouse, the city will still use the building for other purposes. It's not like they're going to tear it down or anything.

It sucks more for FDNY than ghostbusters fans, really...

I didn't know Murray felt that way about the sequel. I am a bit out of the loop though.

    That is a good idea.

Nah....I haven't even seen the place in person yet. I've still got to make the trip to NY for the firehouse and PA for the mall...

*Spengler shakes his head "NO". Venkman looks at him for a second then turns to the realtor.*

If there's truly no way to save the building, they should buy it for the next Ghostbusters movie and turn its destruction (presumably by ghosts in some spectacular way) into a plot point.

Ghostbusters nerd talk coming in here.....

The inside of Hook and Ladder 8 in NY wasn't actually the interior used in the movies. The interior was actually Station 23 in downtown LA. Also seen in many movies/tv shows like The Mask, Knightrider, and several porn movies.

They kinda already did in the first movie when the containment unit exploded. Caused by dickless.

You'll know this better than I (since you ARE the GB nerd! ), but the station wasn't completely destroyed was it? More like roof blown off/trashed? Havn't seen #2 in a long time, & no where near as often a the 1st, but don't they re-open it when they go back into business?

    Just curious.

When Walter Peck(dickless) shuts down the containment unit near the end of the first movie, it explodes as everyone runs out of the building. The only destruction we really see is sparks and smoke shooting out from the front doors and a hole being torn through the roof. Which, btw is obviously a miniature effect if you look close enough. But the short answer is that the audience never really sees the destruction and repair between the two movies. We're left to believe that it was repaired sometime during the five years between the films. The only difference we see in the second movie is the change from the original GB logo to the GB2 "peace" logo of the second movie.

BTW.....give the second movie another chance if you get the time(currently on instant netflix). While it lacks the spark of the first movie, it's still a funny ride in it's own right. Many great moments.

not nerd talk, im speaking from experience because the interior may need some rehab since its not exactly lived in at the moment.
