ZX Spectrum Game - Chaos: The Battle of the Wizards

This is one of the greatest games of all time!

I was looking through some of my old computer magazines in the bog and came across the game 'Art of Magic', which mentioned that it was based on the spectrum game Chaos by Julian Gollop.

So I looked up Mr Gollop and found out he was also responsible for the X-Com games and Laser squad, another spectrum classic. I have found my new god!

A little more searching and guess what I found.

Play Chaos on the web! (Requires Java)

It didn't take me long to figure out the keys (The ones shown do not include the S key) but I will tell you how to play.

Setting up is easy, enter a number of wizards and then configure them.

When starting press 2 to pick your first spell, (or press 1 to have a look at your spells first) if you pick a creature you can choose if you want it to be an illusion or real. Real creatures are harder to cast so they may fail, illusions can scare the enemy but can be disillusioned.

Return to the game (press 4) and use the movement keys (w,a,d,x) to point to where you are going to cast the spell, then press S to cast it.

Once you are done press 0 and your spell round will end and the other wizards will cast.

Next is the movement round. Use the movement keys to highlight yourself or a creature and press S to select them, you can them move them a certian amount of spaces depending on the creature. Attacking is simply walking into an enemies creature or wizard.

Press 0 to end the movement round and it will go back to the spell round and you can cast another spell.

The winner is the last wizard standing.

    Enjoy!

Young guys, remember this pathed way to many games you are playing now.

Ah, the Speccy! What a joy it is to revisit these old classics. I've been playing the Evil Dead game via an emulator recently and have been loving every minute of it.

The greatest Speccy game ever? The Great Escape, hands down!

Heheheh, the Great Escape. Now that was a good game!

I don't remember if I ever finished it, navigating the tunnels was a bugger.

Sabrewulf was a classic game, as was Manic Miner, Hypersports, Way Of The Exploding Fist and Elite. I also remember being particularly fond The Hobbit.

I finished it and you got absolutely NOTHING for your trouble. Still a great game though.

Sure do, that game used to frustrate the hell out of me. Played it not too long ago and it's still frustrating!
