Xbox360 RROD cured?

Most likely yeah, their next box will have to be built like a brick shithouse that'll never fail. 2) How has it taken them this long to figure it out? 3) Their failure rates probably would have been lower if they didn't pimp out 'restored' boxes to those who have had failures. Still, if they really have solved it, let's hope it stays solved - because the RROD (and other technical faults), is basically the only real downside of the 360.

It's been pretty much solved since the Falcon chipsets were introduced last Spring. The Jasper chipsets will appearing with the RE5 bundle coming out on the 13th, which should totally cure RRoD. But yeah, took 'em long enough!

I could not pass up the offer to get the RE 5 Elite bundle. My 20 GB Pro model had been making some noises. Its a 203W model. Not a Falcon or a Jasper.

I keep having these nightmares that my 360 will RROD on me while I'm in the middle of the Ghostbusters game. I definitely don't want to have to buy another one, but I might have to because the 2 week wait for the repair will kill me....

It took just over 1 week for me to notify ms and to get my box back. I had an original xbox360 (bought the day it was released) and it did not rrod until just before xmas last year. Still warranted (barely) and I found the experience with MS, fast and painless. I also got 30 day live card out of the mess.

How can you tell what model / chipset you have? Is it in the serial number? I got this one. You have to check back of the box or console in order to determine the wattage for the power supply. All the older models, including mine, have a 203W. The Falcons, which are still very reliable, are 175W. The Jaspers are 150W. I know for sure that the newer Arcade sets w/ a built in 1/2 G memory are Jaspers as well as the new Resident Evil 5 Elite bundle. There has been rumors flying around on the net that says some people have bought Pro and black Elites that had a 150W power supply. But I cannot confirm these as facts.

I have what is practically a launch system. I guess i lucked out by not having any problems but the damn thing is 3 years old so I don't expect it to last much longer. I'd definitely upgrade. Anyone know what a 20 gig model trades in for? Is there a promotion where they'll give you more money for it if it's toward the purchase of a new system?

I was at Gamestop yesterday to pick up my joystick. The manager there showed me their ad and they are having a trade in special with consoles. An extra $25 added to the $80 trade in for a 360 w/o a HDD. It is good, until March 16. Btw, if you upgrade. Write down your serial # for your older 360. You will need it for a free data transfer kit from MS. And keep your old 20G HDD, of course, at least, until you transfer your data to a 60 or 120G HDD.
