Well, AICN seemed to enjoy it :)

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. It's my understanding that Romero plans to make a couple other zombie films that branch from the characters met by the film students in DIARY.

I won't give any credence to any review that notes the gag zombie kills as a clever and enjoyable aspect of GAR's latest movies. Did any of these reviewers note the flaming head that looked more like Marvel's Jack O'Lantern than a burning zombie? Do we actually believe that you can spray a fire extinguisher into a person's mouth and have the foam come gushing out the ears and eyes, thus destroying the brain? Do we think you can shoot a person's head out from under their scalp like pulling the tablecloth off without disturbing the dishes? That's review FAIL!!

Otherwise the guy had some interesting things to say.

Did the reviewer admit he was stoned or drunk? If so that could explain a decent review.

Well since Romero did gives a reality, and not some over the top comic fest in regards to NotLD... yes some realism would be nice to see.

I think the next Romero movie should just be about how It was all a dream, and we follow Rhodes to his depressing job working in a cubicle 10 hours a day. It turns out, that he dreamed of the entire zombie apocalypse because he wishes to be the bad ass in charge of people, and wants to see the world change. He is actually very meek and pathetic, and rolls over to gentle breeze. Also, his name is Leopold, much to his ire.

Steel and Rickles work in the same place as him, and are his superiors. Steel is the business manager, and Rickles is simply his senior, having been hired several years before Rhodes. Needless to say, Rhodes hates them, and wants them to die. He also drives to work in an older model Ford Escort, and lives in a rundown bachelor pad.

Because that is what you all want right? Realism in films about fucking walking corpses?

What reality? He made a film about a group of people holding out in a farmhouse from a legion of undead, that seek to eat their flesh. The entire thing is inherently silly if you think about it.

Maybe he actually enjoyed those parts of the film. That may seem surprising to you, but hey, it happens.

Suspension of disbelief. Just because zombies exist doesn't mean that fire extinguishers don't have to work like fire extinguishers.

    I'm not whining, I'm ranting. It's different.

I enjoyed Survival, but I don't like the trend of reviewers citing the stupid zombie kills as positives. You didn't see that in Night, or Dawn, or Day. And if you did those movies would be worse for it. Lord help us if Romero starts reading reviews and caring about them. We'll see more of it. Pretty soon we'll have America's Funniest Home Videos of the Dead where it's just clip after clip of "great zombie gag kills." Someone has to take a stand!!

If done right, that could be a pretty damn interesting movie, actually. I'd be interested in seeing it, especially if they could get Pilato to reprise his role of Rhodes. The age thing can be easily dealt with: "I've been having this same dream over and over for the last 25 years..." -- it could be a bit like "Office Space" meets "Donnie Darko" meets "Falling Down".

Sad thing is, this actually sounds like it would be a better film than 95% of the shit that Hollywood attempts to force-feed us these days -- including virtually everything they consider to be a 'horror' film.
