Sky+ Box problems...(UK folk)

How do chaps, Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts regarding this issue. We upgraded to Sky+ a while back, so I took the old original Sky box we had into the family room, meanwhile in the lounge the Sky+ box is used. But we've had consistent problems with "call backs" from Sky. They send a signal to the Sky box and get it pinged back to them or something. The old original box pings back fine, but the Sky+ box does not. We had a technician round and he said it was fine months ago, but it's still not pinging back to Sky. Any idea why? Anybody had this issue before? The old original box is a Panasonic, the Sky+ box is a Thomson. Any idea how much it is to buy a new Sky+ box on its own?

no idea, my boxes arent even connected by the phone line like they should be and they still work.
